Lapwing
Lapwing is two old friends from Glasgow, Tim Kwant and Phil Ford. They write beautiful songs about loss and hope with poetic lyrics and haunting melodies, set in acoustic soundscapes.
Having worked together for many years, their partnership came to public attention suddenly in December 2020 when their viral Christmas song and video, 'Hope Christmas Gets You to Me', gained over a million plays online and featured on local and national radio, including support from legendary BBC Radio 2 DJs, Ken Bruce, Jo Whiley, and Graham Norton. The band received favourable press coverage from The Herald Scotland, The Scottish Sun and The Glasgow Times, and was interviewed on several commercial radio stations, STV and ITV Borders, while they also gained celebrity support from TV's Lorraine Kelly, Scottish actor, Tony Curran, and American bestselling author, Brené Brown. Ultimately, with a zero spend on marketing, the song peaked at 14 in the UK iTunes Chart, and achieved the top 40 in the 2020 Christmas Download Chart.
Through this experience, the band built a loyal fanbase of more than 10,000 followers across social media platforms and, in the years since, their Christmas song has continued to prove popular on BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Cumbria.
Having honed a unique sound, 2024 will see the release of their much-anticipated debut album, Thin Places.
